The Never-ending DUDE Debate: Boobs vs. Butts

Beauty is truly in the eye of the beholder. Human attraction is rooted in our psychological, cultural, hormonal and evolutionary makeup. Attraction comes in all shapes, colors, sizes, genders and sexualities. This blog explores the eternally fierce debate between the preference of two female body parts. Boobs or butts.

The Ancient Curvy Ladies

The Venus of Willendorf is a statue found in Europe in 1820. Scientists estimate that it and thousands of other similar statues are 30,000 years old. Today, we call these ladies curvy.

Venus statues have bodacious and accentuated body parts. Archaeologists believe the curves are a celebration of fertility. Ancient DUDES believed this type of female body meant more babies on the way. This idea fuels the psychological attraction for bigger boobs and asses. But this opens a whole different question — what about attraction to smaller boobs and butts?

The Waist-to-Hip Ratio

The waist-to-hip ratio is the most constant female feature associated with attraction. The hourglass figure isn't new or created by Kim Kardashian's surgeons. Women began to wear corsets in the 16th century, sometimes so tight they fainted from lack of oxygen. The dangerous fashion statement parading through the cobblestone streets of Victorian New York was eye catching.

The attraction to low waist-to-hip ratios isn't only sexual. Again, it has deep roots in health and fertility. The hourglass figure of low waist-to-hip ratio correlates to increased cardiovascular health. Human attraction has a hormonal element that's much deeper than "oh, look at that babe." We can smell hormones of our fellow humans. That's right gents, you better be smelling fresh (we can help in that department)

The Pamela Anderson Silicon Matrix

While psychology and evolution started the war between boob man and ass man — plastic surgeons embolden the conflict. To the delight of boob guys, the first modern breast augmentation took place in the early 1960's. Now, there are over 300,000 of these procedures a year. Enlargements, shaping and reductions are creating an infinite realm of sizes and perkiness. The modern medicine miracles also created division. Civil conflict between au naturel and silicon divides jugs enthusiasts.

The Ass Renaissance

Plastic surgery on booties is a burgeoning industry with some eye popping results. Much like other procedures, it began to appear on celebrities and is spreading to the public. Decades before ass implants, changes to fitness brought in a new age for the derriere.

The increase of knowledge in muscle building resulted in exercises to target the ass. Power lifts like the squat and deadlift became adapted by women for building the gluteus. What started with aerobics is now entire workout classes dedicated to sculpting behinds. The results? Fit, toned and beautiful booties.

At the same time, culture shifted with divine appreciation to the behind. Legends like Sir-Mix-a-Lot, Queen and Wreck-X-N-Effect praised the beauty of rumps. Much like the Venus statue of old, donks earned the love they deserved.

The debate made its way onto one of the most popular podcasts on the planet. Bill Burr discussed his opinions on a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. Booties seem to be winning the culture war these days. Twerking is a national pastime and tribute to the fanny. The peach emoji vibrates cell phones across the world every second.

What’s the Correct Answer? Boobs or Butts?

In short — there is none. The debate rages on. Attraction has sources from psychology, evolution, culture and more. In the end, it's subjective. We should respect the vast array of things humans find attractive. Let both warring factions make peace and appreciate the female form as it is.

Keep it fresh, DUDE!
